Save the Date!  Annual Garden Party Fundraiser - August 15, 2009

Each year ANA's main fundraiser is a Garden Party held at the Eastburns' beautiful Happiness Farm in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.  The day includes catered, Epicurean finger-foods (donated by Memorable Affairs), an open bar, live music, a silent auction, displays of  ANA projects, presentations and an honored guest.   All the money raised goes directly back into our projects in the Southwest thanks to First Service Bank of Doylestown which makes a generous donation each year to underwrite the cost of the party.

In 2008 we honored our late co-founder William Eastburn who passed away in the spring of 2008.  He was one half of the driving force behind ANA and is greatly missed.

In 2007 we were delighted to honor Andrew L. Othole, a gifted leader of the Zuni Tribe which is located primarily in western New Mexico. He directs the Zuni Office of Planning and Development where he has developed major improvements in housing, roads, schools, and infrastructure for a people who have endured for over two thousand years. Mr. Othole served as a member of the Zuni Tribal Council for four years and as their former Lt. Governor. He is currently Vice President of the Zuni Board of Education and works closely with Zuni religious leaders to preserve the rich traditions of the Pueblo such as the Shalako Ceremony. Mr. Othole has been the primary liaison and outstanding host for ANA’s recent Veterinary Medical Clinics and Civil Air Patrol Cadet work trips.

In 2006 we honored Jim Harlan, founder of the Community Pantry in Gallup, New Mexico.  For more information on the Community Pantry see the Backpack Program page.

In 2005 we honored Dr. Lori Alvord, the first woman Native American surgeon. She is also the author of the book, The Scalpel and the Silver Bear

In 2004 we honored the veterinarians and veterinarian technicians who have donated their time and talents over the past 5 years to traveling to the Southwest to treat literally thousands of animals.  (Photographs)

In 2003 we honored Army Pfc. Lori Piestewa's sacrifice for her country.   Pfc. Piestewa was a Hopi and first Native American woman to die in combat in the service of the United States of America.  She was the roommate of Pfc. Jessica Lynch who was the only member of the 507th Ordinance Maintenance Company to survive the ambush on March 23, 2002.  In conjunction with the Southwest Indian Foundation, ANA helped to fund a scholarship program for Pfc. Piestewa's two small children.  Her mother, Percy Piestewa, traveled from Arizona to Pennsylvania with Lori's daughter to accept the honor.

In 2002 we honored Bishop Donald Pelotte of the Diocese of Gallup, New Mexico.  Bishop Pelotte is the first Native American bishop in the Catholic Church, and he was instrumental in the formation of Americans for Native Americans.   In 1991, it was the Bishop who informed Bill and Connie Eastburn of the deaths of 17 men in the streets of Gallup due to the lack of proper clothing or blankets.   Since that time he has been very supportive of our projects and aids our cause in whatever way he can. In 2001 our honored guest was Dr. Sam Billison, President of the Navajo Code Talkers Association.  He gave a brief presentation on his experiences during World War II and was available throughout the party to speak personally with our guests.  (Photographs)

The silent auction tables are composed of many fine items donated by local business people and artists.  It provides for an afternoon of fun and competitive bidding.  If you would like to donate an item, please contact us with the details.
